OCD and the peace of Christ

July 6, 2008 at 5:49 pm (Musings..., Scripture References)

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and will bring you back from captivity.”  Jeremiah 29:13, 14a

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.  And be thankful.”  Colossians 3:15

I struggle with OCD.  Sometimes it completely captures me.  Ask my darling children — I can obsess something to death.  They have learned to give me a straight answer the first time I ask because if my “mom instincts” kick in, I will ask again and again.  Even if they give me an answer, I will probably ask more than once… it’s a good thing they love me 🙂

Today hasn’t been a good day.  I have thoughts that I cannot let go.  The two verses, while you may not think have a connection, connect for me…

When my OCD is really bad, I start “seeking” the Lord.  That is the only way I can focus my mind on what is right.  He promises in Jeremiah that “he will be found by me.”  I am also doing a Bible study, “Cappuccino with Colossians by Sandra Glahn.”   My new favorite verse is Colossians 3:15.  I must let the “peace of Christ rule my heart.”

OCD can be a form of captivity — of the mind — I am clinging to both of these precious verses today.

Note to self:   I need to have peace…  I need to be thankful…

God made me the way I am — OCD does have its good traits… just not today 😦
