I Sing

"I Sing"

I have finished my most recent design, “I Sing.”  I used texture medium along the border — pressed real leaves into the medium, dried it well then painted the whole thing warm white, then blue (mixture of teal blue and chrome green hue).  I dried it well then used extender and burnt umber and quin gold — brushing on and wiping off until I got the look I wanted.  After drying well, I used fine sandpaper to remove some of the blue paint on the highest ridges… to show the white.

The calligraphy is my second version — I will show you the first later on in this blog — after checking with my mentor, Paul Seymour, he said the original illuminated “S” was too bright.  He suggested not adding any more colors — so I sanded the calligraphy off and started over again.   I changed the “S” to an “I” and made my writing a bit smaller.  I am so pleased with the end result!!

You should be pleased with your results!!! I hope you took notes so you can put this in a packet. It could be a very modern fraktur!! I really love it!!

the difference between the original and the final product is dramatic. I agree, I really like the darker look and the I instead of the S.
