“Psalm 139”

February 18, 2010 at 7:45 pm (Decorative Painting, Musings...)

I have been working on a piece of art adapted from a design by Willow Wolfe.  I converted it to Heritage Acrylics and painted it on wood.  I used Psalm 139 as my background for the tulips ~~ the entire Psalm!!

I really must start painting for resale, (so I can recoup some of my investment ) 🙂 but I find myself drawn to things that are perhaps a bit less “marketable.”  Nonetheless, I am growing as an artist.

I have an appointment with my neurosurgeon on March 4.  Maybe I will have answers ~~ is my glioma causing the TN?  Can it be fixed? Until then I will rest in the knowledge that I am “fearfully and wonderfully made.”  Psalm 139:14

Brent’s Haiti Earthquake Water Drive

February 11, 2010 at 7:04 pm (Musings...)

My son, Brent, lives in North Carolina.  He is officially on his own (he filed his own taxes for 2009!).  In December 2008, Brent spent a week at an orphanage in Honduras.  It changed the way he looked at poverty, real poverty.

When the Haiti earthquake hit, Brent decided to do something tangible to help.  He spent hours on the phone, trying to figure out what to do.

He decided to work with Food For The Poor and collect bottled water ~~ something Haiti needs desperately, for both their people and their recovery workers.

He can be contacted at 814-241-1387.  His address is :  19827-M Henderson Road, Cornelius, NC  28031.  Email:  olsavskyb@gmail.com

Even if you can’t help or contribute, I covet your prayers for him!

Duncan Hines Cupcakes ~~ A Great Idea!

February 10, 2010 at 9:56 am (Product Reviews)

12-15 cupcake box mix 🙂

I use Duncan Hines box cake mixes for my cakes.  The moisture can’t be duplicated in a “from scratch” cake.  However, I often add something to make the box mix unique to me.  When I make a chocolate cake, I use cold coffee for the water and always add a few tablespoons of instant coffee for depth of flavor.

Since darling DannyO and I are now the only people living in our house, making a big cake really doesn’t make sense ~~ I end up eating most of the cake.  I accidently bought a cupcake box mix.

I was hungry for chocolate, so I scrounged through my pantry for SOMETHING chocolate.  What a wonderful surprise!  It made 15 cupcakes, just enough for DanO and I to enjoy, but without the extra servings that go directly to my hips 🙂 .

While I cannot tell you how much I paid for this box (makes 9″ cake)  in relation to a full 9×13 cake mix, for Dan and I, it is just perfect!!

Snow, Snow and More Snow!

February 9, 2010 at 7:17 pm (Decorative Painting, Jewelry)

Psalm 139 ~~ still in progress

We just keep getting snow ~~ more and more of it!  I would post a picture of all of our snow, but quite honestly, I’d have to go outside and take the picture.  It isn’t as pretty as it was in December.  I’m waiting for Spring!

What I have been doing is painting and making jewelry. My decorative art piece is still a work in progress (notice the tape marking the border). I wrote the complete chapter of Psalm 139 as a background for the tulips.  I need to refine the tulips — make the back petals recede into the painting and finish the leaves.  I’m so excited to finish this piece!

I also have some beautifully colorful beads I am just itching to make into a bracelet.  I am still working on the design, but I think it will be a multi-strand memory-wire bracelet… These are my inspiration beads

Beads waiting to be made into a bracelet 🙂

My TN is not good today.  I’ve had to deal with sharp, electric-type shocks through my jaw.  It has exhausted me.  Tomorrow, though is another day… new day, new grace, new mercies 🙂

My New Reality

February 1, 2010 at 4:19 pm (Decorative Painting, Jewelry, Multiple Sclerosis, Musings...)

I’ve watched my Mom live with pain for the past 15 years.  I was  openly critical of her handling of her life ~~ too many drugs, too little counseling, not enough “suck it up” attitude,  on and on.  I apologized to her two weeks ago.

The trigeminal neuralgia pain I am living with can, at times, be unbearable.  I understand overdosing.  I understand suicide.  I understand depression.

I choose diversion ~~ bending wire, painting, music.  I choose heating a rice bag slightly and letting the warmth seep into my cheek.  I choose several different drug “cocktails” that surprise the pain and take some of it away for a while.  I choose prayer.  I choose Practicing the Presence of God.

I don’t have any answers, just more questions.  I know this much, God has a plan for me, plans to prosper and not to harm me, plans to give me a hope and a future.  I’m leaning on the “everlasting arm” of my Creator.

As I look for diversions, my creative brain is on overload.  Here are a few of my latest projects.
