I’m Rocking My Baby…

October 10, 2010 at 4:21 pm (Musings...)

My niece Rebekah gave birth a few months ago to a beautiful daughter, Dottie.  Two other nieces, Renee and Kari are having babies very soon.  The last verse of this poem went around and around in my head today.  I knew I had a few pictures of me rocking my darling babies…

Darling Amanda Joy

This poignant poem, author unknown, is very profound.  I must admit that sometimes I failed miserably as I tried to be “superwoman,” a quite impossible feat.  Through everything, though, I loved my babies, Amanda and Brent…

Precious Brent Daniel

Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth
empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
hang out the washing and butter the bread,
sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I’ve grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(lullaby, rockabye, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew
and out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo
but I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren’t her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(lullaby, rockabye, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
for children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

Cannot believe I clicked on this randomly. My son and daughter in law just had their first child…..well not just ..16mos ago. And I was telling my close friend, my daughter in laws mom, how I just stop and watch Lilah when she comes over for the day. Everything just stops for me! She quoted this poem which I had never heard before but it was so appropriate. I never even stopped for my own kids! Being a Nana is wonderful! Thank you so much! Still can’t believe I clicked on it!

My Momma used to quote the last verse to me very often. I remember wanting to be super mom and often needed reminded to take the time… Enjoy being a Nana!!!
